BODEGAS LÓPEZ represents an exceptional case in the Argentine wine industry: that began over one hundred and ten years, continues today in the hands of the founding family. The wise combination of ancient traditions with an updated technology to give their wines a dual status of classic and modern at once.

Its founder, Jose Rivas Lopez, arrived in 1886 from the village of Algarrobo in Malaga, Spain, where her family grew along with vineyards and olive farms. Decided to set up their vineyards in the country and thus escape a devastating pest, phylloxera, which affected the vines in Europe.

Finally took root in 1898 in Mendoza, and the weight of the family winemaking tradition soon emerge. In the month of March began developing their own areas of the best wines produced to date and strains own principle is maintained since then: to control all steps in the development, caring for and supervising every detail.

These first wines sold in oak hulls were very popular because of their quality. Soon the demand exceeded production, and the necessity of increasing Jose Rivas Lopez bought a plot of land in the District General Gutiérrez, Maipú, where they built the present winery.

That year (1898), was born on September 19 Jose Federico Lopez, the only son of Joseph Lopez Rivas, a direct continuation of the spirit and parental action. Who until shortly before they turned one hundred years of life, guided the destinies of future family business.
